Announcements:

 

Exploring College Options with Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn & Stanford will be held on Sunday, May 13, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown and on Thursday, May 17, at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale.  Both sessions begin promptly at 7:30 PM.  This is a great opportunity to hear representatives speak briefly about each institution and to answer your questions regarding college admissions.  Register at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org.

                                                                                                                            

JUNIOR COLLEGE MEETINGS: In order to prepare for the Junior College Meeting with your Guidance Counselor, students are asked to complete the following assignments on Naviance:

·       Personality Type Inventory

·       College Search Worksheet*

·       Resume*

These forms must be fully completed and submitted to the counselor promptly.  Parents/Guardians of Juniors should contact the Counseling Office to schedule an appointment after their child submits the required worksheets.  Appointments cannot be schedule until the worksheets are submitted.

 

NCAA REQUIREMENTS: Athletes are reminded to complete the necessary NCAA Clearinghouse paperwork at the end of Grade 11. Registration must be done on-line. After filing, students must notify their guidance counselor and bring a transcript release form (available in the guidance office) to the Registrar’s Office so that a transcript may be sent to the NCAA. SAT/ACT:

·       Visit http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-dates for a list of SAT I and SAT II testing dates and deadlines.

·       Visit http://www.actstudent.org/regist/dates.html for a list of ACT testing dates and deadlines.

 

HOMEBOUND POLICY: When a student is absent for more than three consecutive days, a doctor’s note should be brought to the Counseling Department. Homebound tutoring services may be available if the student is absent for more than three consecutive days due to a documented medical condition.

 

Seniors:

 

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS: Seniors must meet with their guidance counselor before they submit any college application materials to the Registrar’s Office.  IMPORTANT: Any student who has applied on-line to a college must remember to notify the Registrar and request that an official high school transcript be sent to the college. Students should see their counselor for more information.

 

As students receive decisions from colleges, a copy of each letter must be given to his/her counselor.

 

Nassau Community College (NCC) applications are available in the guidance office. All other applications must be requested by the student directly from the individual colleges or downloaded from the internet at the college’s web-site. Applications should be obtained now. 

 

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarship bulletins will be posted on the guidance web site and on Naviance. Scholarship information can also be obtained online at www.fastweb.com. Individual college catalogues are also an excellent resource for scholarship and financial aid information.

 

The FAFSA should be completed as soon after January 1 as possible.  The FAFSA can be found on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Remember, you may also need to complete the C.S.S. Profile if the colleges you applied to require it.  You can access this form at the College Board’s web site: www.collegeboard.org.

 

The Oceanside District Scholarship is now available. The scholarship is based primarily on financial need and you must have your social security number to apply.  Sign up with Mrs. Aiello in Room S103.  The deadline is April 16, 2012.

 

Promotion Requirements:

                                                         

To enter Grade 12, students need to have successfully completed 15.5 credits. These credits must include English 9, 10, 11; social studies 9, 10, 11; ½ credit in health; 2 credits of mathematics; 2 credits of science and 3 years of physical education.

 

To enter Grade 11, sophomores must have successfully completed 10.5 credits. These credits must include English 9 & 10; social studies 9 & 10; and one year of science, mathematics and physical education.

 

To enter Grade 10, freshmen must have earned 5 credits excluding physical education.

Students who fail a course or a Regents exam during the school year should see their counselor regarding summer school.
